Louisville Eats pt. 1

So you're visiting the city of Louisville, after Churchill Downs and a University of Louisville sporting event, what's your next move? I don't know about you, but food is never far from my mind and while the beer and nachos at the game were a tasty treat, I'm definitely ready for a real meal afterwards. As you probably know, us Floridians like seafood... actually, let me clarify, we LOVE seafood. So, the first place I look for in a new city is a good sushi place. Growing up on the coast you get used to fresh seafood in your meals so you can say I'm a tough critic. However, in my last two years in this city I can say I've found two sushi places that fill my weekly (daily *cough cough*) cravings.
1.) My number one spot for sushi is Sapporo on Bardstown Road, in the Highlands. It's a chic little Japanese restaurant boasting, in my opinion, the best sushi and hibachi in town. You can sit at the sushi bar, a dining table, or the hibachi grill. My go- to sushi rolls are the Surf and Turf and the Playboy. I pretty much stick to steak, lobster, crab, shrimp, and tuna when it comes to sushi, but I'm always down for a new experience. My mom came and visited me recently and being my mother, you know she's a sushi fanatic just like I am. The first place I took her was Sapporo, and I can't decide if I'm ashamed or proud to tell you we ordered two appetizers and five sushi rolls. Actually... we were pretty stoked about our impressive order. Sapporo is definitely the spot to be when you're in the area and craving sushi, but be aware they don't open till 5pm. So grab a friend, grab one of their killer martinis, and get ready for a good night.

2.) A very close second for me is Dragon Kings Daughter, also located on Bardstown Road. This quaint little restaurant delivers new tastes when it comes to sushi, combining foods and styles you wouldn't see just anywhere. Along with their scrumptious eats, the restaurant itself is quite different. They support local artists and hang their work on the walls so the decorations are never quite the same. Personally, its one of my favorite things about this place. You can sit inside their restaurant at the tables or a bar, or you can sit outside at a small patio table, which is ideal for beautiful summer days like today. My favorite roll here is the Don't Hurt 'Em. In addition to sushi, they have a decent variety of Mexican food, if you're feeling a little spicy. Either way, you should definitely stop by and take in this restaurant on a pretty day.

XOXO,
Haley
